Your gift is mutually beneficial\u2014PETA receives the full value of the stock, while you avoid paying any capital gains tax on appreciated assets.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tax Benefits of Giving Securities<\/h2>\n<p>Giving appreciated securities that have been held for longer than one year can offer significant benefits, including the following:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n \t<li>You won\u2019t owe capital gains tax on the shares that you donate\u2014and neither will PETA.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>You\u2019ll qualify for an income-tax deduction for the fully appraised value of the stock.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Similar <em>state<\/em> tax benefits are also available in most states.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\n<p>Should you have appreciated stock that you want to keep but are concerned about the capital gains tax that you\u2019ll face when it comes time to sell, donating it to animals could help you.
