Together, we <em>stuck it<\/em> to Exxon at its gas stations \u2026<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Exxon-Evil-Sticker.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Exxon-Evil-Sticker-602x456.jpg\" alt=\"Exxon Evil Sticker\"\/><\/a>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u2026 in more ways than one \u2026<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/ExxonEvil2-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/ExxonEvil2-602x452.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u2026 erected a billboard near ExxonMobil\u2019s Irving, Texas, headquarters; placed bus ads near the Iditarod\u2019s start in Anchorage, Alaska; slammed the company on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/peta\/status\/1345488293731971072\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>; sent it more than half a million e-mails; called it hundreds of times; and held protest \u2026<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Exxon-Demo-Protest-PETA-Dallas-NC-PO-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Exxon-Demo-Protest-PETA-Dallas-NC-PO-602x402.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u2026 after protest \u2026<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Exxon_4-scaled.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Exxon_4-602x402.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u2026 after protest.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Exxon-demo-Los-Angeles.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Exxon-demo-Los-Angeles-602x293.png\" alt=\"PETA \u2018Shuts Down\u2019 Exxon Gas Station for Cruelty to Dogs\"\/><\/a>\n<\/figure>\n<p>And it has all paid off. ExxonMobil will soon join the growing list of companies (including Chrysler, Alaska Airlines, Coca-Cola, and Jack Daniel\u2019s) that have listened to PETA and the public and stopped supporting an evil industry in which dogs are chained up like old bicycles \u2026<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/iditarod_kennel_dog_chained.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-982077\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> At a kennel operated by former Iditarod champion John Baker and by Katherine Keith, two of whose dogs died during past Iditarod races, a PETA eyewitness observed dozens of frantic dogs kept constantly chained to dilapidated wooden boxes, often with little to no straw, in subzero temperatures.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2026 and forced to run so far and so fast that their bodies break down, their paws bleed, or they die after inhaling their own vomit.<\/p>\n\n<div id=\"emphasis-acf-block-65cfa17630346\" class=\"emphasis wp-block-peta-blocks-emphasis\">\n\t<div class=\"emphasis__content\">\n\t\t<div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\"><p class=\"has-text-align-center\">In response, PETA has canceled upcoming ads\u2014featuring a spoof \u201cExxonEvil\u201d logo and a twist on the company\u2019s \u201cTiger in Your Tank\u201d campaign\u2014that it had planned to run in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Exxon-Mobil-Tiger-Ad.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Anchorage Daily News<\/em><\/a> and the Texas edition of the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> next week. After meeting with executives, the group has agreed to withdraw its 2021 shareholder resolution (the action that was apparently the final straw), which asked ExxonMobil to end all sponsorship of activities in which animals are used, abused, and killed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>More than 150 dogs have died during the Iditarod since it began, and that doesn\u2019t include those who died during the off-season \u2026<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/birch_iditarod_victim.gif\" alt=\"Birch, an Iditarod victim\" class=\"wp-image-968545\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> Birch endured horrific neglect at this \u201ckennel\u201d co-owned by former Iditarod champion John Baker. Despite sustaining a crippling, extremely painful spinal cord injury when she was just a puppy, she was denied veterinary care and chained in the freezing cold 24\/7. Then when officers visited Team Baker Kennel in 2019, Baker claimed that Birch had recovered and said (suspiciously) that he\u2019d sent her to another dog musher in Canada.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2026 or who were killed because they weren\u2019t fast or fit enough to make the grade. Dogs used in the race are forced to pull heavy sleds across approximately 1,000 miles of grueling terrain, through blinding blizzards and subzero temperatures. During the 2020 race alone, more than 220 dogs were pulled off the trail because of exhaustion, illness, injury, or other causes. However, despite the death toll and a public outcry\u2014and even though ex-sponsors have been running for the hills and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/news\/health-risk-iditarod-coronavirus\/\">veterinarian has warned<\/a> Iditarod CEO Rob Urbach that if the race is held during the COVID-19 pandemic, \u201cthe result could be dire\u201d\u2014Urbach and his colleagues still plan to hold the death race in less than two months.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Together, we persuaded ExxonMobil to stop funding cruelty. With your help, we can make even more of a difference for vulnerable dogs.<\/h4>\n<p>Wells Fargo, State Farm, Panasonic, and others have ended their support of the Iditarod after hearing from PETA and <em>you<\/em>\u2014so let\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/support.peta.org\/page\/34728\/action\/1?locale=en-US&amp;en_txn7=blog::victory-exxonmobil-iditarod-sponsorship\" rel=\"noopener\">put the pressure on Liberty Media<\/a> to follow suit.
