(Every vegan brand is inherently down-free, but these are a few standout names redefining winter wear that has historically used down feathers.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-beluga-background-color has-background\"><strong>Every bird is <em>someone<\/em>.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/features\/geese-facts-that-will-make-you-ditch-down\/\">Geese<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/features\/facts-about-ducks\/\">ducks<\/a> are extremely social, loyal birds. In their tight-knit communities\u2014or \u201cgaggles\u201d\u2014geese look after one another and take shifts performing different duties for the group. Little ducklings love their siblings, and even communicate with one another while they\u2019re still inside their eggs so they can hatch at the same time. It\u2019s up to you to <strong>leave feathers where they belong<\/strong>: on the birds born with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re shopping in-store or online, it helps to know what to look for: Check for labels like <strong>\u201cvegan\u201d<\/strong> or <strong>\u201cdown alternative\u201d<\/strong> and look for <strong>animal-friendly insulation<\/strong> made from high-quality synthetics, cotton, or innovative animal-free technologies. Most outdoor brands now have proprietary high-tech insulations. <strong>The North Face<\/strong> was among the first mainstream labels to introduce a high-performance down replacement with its revolutionary <strong>ThermoBall\u2122<\/strong> insulation, which is lofty, compressible, and even maintains warmth when wet, thanks to small, round synthetic fibers that cluster like feathers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/features\/vegan-down-alternatives\/\">MORE HIGH-TECH DOWN-FREE MATERIALS<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After hearing from PETA, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/lifestyle\/personal-care-fashion\/hm-bans-down-feathers-victory\/\"><strong>H&amp;M<\/strong><\/a>\u2014the second-largest clothing retailer in the world\u2014confirmed that it would no longer source new down for any of its brands worldwide, a move sparing ducks and geese a lifetime of misery and a painful and frightening death.
