She spends her days basking in the sun with her feline friends and romping about with her beagle brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>George Is No Longer the Last Solitary Chimpanzee at a Roadside Zoo<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/news\/west-coast-game-park-safari-shut-down-310-animals-rescued\/\">George<\/a> was born at Steve Martin\u2019s Working Wildlife<strong>\u2014<\/strong>a shady animal training company that exploited him for photo ops and a TV show before dumping him at West Coast Game Park Safari. For years, he wasted away there in a small enclosure that appeared to have no warm, dry place for him to go. After everything he\u2019s suffered through at West Coast Game Park Safari, George is finally on the path to healing\u2014and thriving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Janaki Was All Alone in a Chicken Transport Truck<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk traveled to India, she discovered someone in need of help: a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animalrahat.com\/latest-news\/janaki-is-free-as-a-bird\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lone hen<\/a> forgotten in a transport truck barreling down a highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ingrid helped convince the driver to pull over and persuaded him to let Animal Rahat keep the little bird, who was left behind when workers unloaded her flockmates for slaughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although she was scared and likely missing the only friends she\u2019d ever known, Janaki\u2019s spirits instantly brightened when she spotted the flock of other rescued chickens at the sanctuary. His owners left him outside, tied with a barely two-foot-long, hopelessly tangled tether with nothing to curl up next to except a hard, heavy concrete block in a plastic cage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite Chico\u2019s obvious suffering, his owner initially refused to allow PETA to take custody of the neglected dog\u2014but our fieldworkers didn\u2019t give up. We continued to visit Chico and provide him with food, water, and affection for several months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our persistence paid off when the owner finally agreed to let PETA provide Chico with the care he desperately needed after he became ill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After receiving veterinary care and enjoying a short stay with a foster guardian\u2014who reported that Chico was \u201cfull of heart\u201d and \u201cthe best kind of friend\u201d\u2014Chico was ready to find his forever home. They could hardly see the struggling calf; only her face was visible beneath layers of murky muck and garbage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With extra help from the fire brigade, Animal Rahat rescuers got the little calf back on solid ground. She was safe, alert, and miraculously uninjured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/draupadi-holiday-rescue.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"602\" height=\"334\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/draupadi-holiday-rescue-602x334.jpg\" alt=\"Draupadi from holiday rescue video\" class=\"wp-image-1179035\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/draupadi-holiday-rescue-602x334.jpg 602w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/draupadi-holiday-rescue-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/draupadi-holiday-rescue-768x426.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/draupadi-holiday-rescue-750x416.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/draupadi-holiday-rescue.jpg 913w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The calf is now named Draupadi in honor of the powerful heroine of the Mahabharata (an ancient Indian text) and the spirit of unity\u2014much like the one that brought the Animal Rahat team together with the fire brigade to rescue her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Draupadi now thrives at Animal Rahat\u2019s sanctuary, alongside five other buffaloes rescued by the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Amir Survived Bombs and Bullets in Ukraine<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When bombs and bullets pelted the Ukrainian city of Kostyantynivka, <a href=\"https:\/\/headlines.peta.org\/ukraine-updates\/june-24-war-survivor-amir\/\">Amir\u2019s world shattered<\/a>. Alone, injured, and terrified, the sweet dog hopelessly wandered the streets of the active war zone after losing the only family he had ever known. But Amir was one of the lucky ones\u2014help was on its way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks to support from PETA\u2019s Global Compassion Fund, our friends at Animal Rescue Kharkiv found Amir near the front lines. Despite the chaos and danger, the rescue team transported him and as many other animals as they could back to their shelter. Amir was ready to show his new family in France his loving, goofy personality almost immediately. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Simon Is Crusty No More<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/investigations.peta.org\/petas-rescue-team\/\">Community Animal Project fieldworkers<\/a>&nbsp;first met <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/news\/adopt-simon-prowell-kitten\/\">Simon<\/a>, the four-week-old kitten\u2019s right eye was covered in discharge and nearly swollen shut due to a nasty upper respiratory infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With no money and no transportation, Simon\u2019s animal-hoarding owner turned to PETA for help. After&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/about-peta\/learn-about-peta\/helping-animals-in-hampton-roads\/snip\/\">PETA\u2019s mobile clinic<\/a>&nbsp;provided free spays, neuters, and vital veterinary care for many of the cats from the property,&nbsp; fieldworkers convinced the owner to keep the newly fixed felines safely indoors and to allow PETA to find Simon a new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After some time in foster care, where he recovered from fleas and his infection, the tiny tabby was ready for a fresh start.
