Some of the most exploited poodle mixes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Goldendoodle<\/strong> (Golden retriever + poodle)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Labradoodle<\/strong> (Labrador retriever + poodle)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bernedoodle<\/strong> (Bernese mountain dog + poodle)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Aussiedoodle <\/strong>(Australian shepherd + poodle)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maltipoo<\/strong> (Maltese + poodle)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cockapoo <\/strong>(Cocker Spaniel + poodle)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cavapoo <\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/features\/never-buy-cavalier-king-charles-spaniel\/\">Cavalier King Charles spaniel<\/a> + poodle)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Yorkipoo <\/strong>(Yorkshire terrier + poodle)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Doodle breeders claim the dogs are \u201chypoallergenic,\u201d \u201cpurebred,\u201d or \u201cethical,\u201d and use other buzzwords to trick people into buying them, despite none of their claims being true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real cost of buying a doodle often comes at the dog\u2019s expense. Behind every \u201cdoodle for sale\u201d ad is suffering. The breeding industry focuses on profit, costing mother dogs and their puppies a lifetime of suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Should I Buy a Doodle? 5 Reasons Not to<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong>Doodles Are Prone to Health Issues<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Because doodles are a mix of two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/features\/purebred-dog-health-issues\/\">or more dog breeds who often suffer from severe genetic diseases<\/a>, they frequently inherit health issues. What health issues do doodles often suffer from?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Goldendoodles and Labradoodles can inherit painful hip and elbow dysplasia from both parents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bernedoodles are prone to progressive retinal atrophy, which often causes blindness, heart disease, and many joint problems, common in Bernese mountain dogs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All doodles risk chronic ear infections, allergies, skin conditions, and eye disorders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <strong>&nbsp;Sellers Claim Doodles Are \u201cHypoallergenic\u201d or \u201cPurebred\u201d When They\u2019re Not<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many breeders use nonsensical jargon to make their puppies sound special. For example, the term <strong>\u201cF1 mini Goldendoodle\u201d<\/strong> just means the puppy\u2019s parents were a golden retriever and a miniature poodle instead of other doodles. Breeders call this a \u201cpurebred doodle\u201d\u2014a made-up label designed to trick people into spending more money. The term \u201cdoodle\u201d indicates that a poodle was bred with another type of dog, resulting in a dog who is by definition mixed-breed. Mutts with parents of different breeds are just as worthy of love as dogs whose parents are the same type, but it seems pretty deceptive to label them something they\u2019re not for the sake of making more money off them. <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many doodle breeders also claim to sell \u201chypoallergenic\u201d dogs, but there\u2019s really no such thing. The proteins that trigger allergies aren\u2019t only in fur, but in all dogs\u2019 saliva, dander, and urine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/golden-doodle-6240531_1280.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"602\" height=\"401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/golden-doodle-6240531_1280-602x401.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1166566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/golden-doodle-6240531_1280-602x401.jpg 602w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/golden-doodle-6240531_1280-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/golden-doodle-6240531_1280-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/golden-doodle-6240531_1280-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.peta.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/golden-doodle-6240531_1280.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 602px) 100vw, 602px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <strong>Doodles Often Suffer From Painful Matting<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Doodles are known for coats that tangle quickly. <em>Why are doodles so prone to matting? <\/em>Dogs with a double coat (e.g., Golden Retrievers, Bernese Mountain Dogs, etc.) have two distinct layers of fur\u2014one that is soft and provides insulation, and a coarse, thick outer coat. When poodle mixes inherit a double coat from the non-poodle parent, both layers of fur are often coarse and curly, tangling together as the dog moves throughout the day. If doodle guardians don\u2019t thoroughly brush them every day, the tangles can quickly mat. If left matted, the knots can cause extreme discomfort and even lead to infections, especially when they are tight enough to tear the skin and create open wounds. Some may be small-time \u201cbackyard\u201d operations, whereas others are industrial-sized&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/issues\/animal-companion-issues\/animal-companion-factsheets\/puppy-mills-dogs-abused-pet-trade\/\">puppy mills<\/a>. Regardless of size,&nbsp;<em>every<\/em>&nbsp;breeder is harming animals. Even the \u201ccreator\u201d of Labradoodles admits he made a colossal mistake, partially because of how the dogs are being exploited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI realized the reason for these unethical, ruthless people [was] to breed these dogs and sell them for big bucks \u2026 I opened a Pandora\u2019s box and released a Frankenstein\u2019s monster,\u201d Wally Conron, creator of the Labradoodle<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Female dogs used for breeding often suffer the most. They\u2019re forced into pregnancy again and again, kept in cramped cages or kennels or even chained outside, denied proper care, and then discarded when they\u2019re no longer profitable.&nbsp;Mothers and their puppies often suffer from malnutrition, exposure to all weather extremes and\/or improper ventilation, and a lack of adequate veterinary care. Puppies are often prematurely separated from their mothers and deprived of the <em>gentle<\/em> handling and positive experiences required to help socialize them to humans from an early age. On any given day in the U.S., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peta.org\/issues\/animal-companion-issues\/overpopulation\/\">millions of homeless dogs and cats&nbsp;<\/a>are struggling to survive. Of the millions who enter shelters each year, about half must be euthanized for humane reasons, including because no suitable homes exist for them. Every time a dog is bred, a homeless dog waiting in a shelter loses a chance at a family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How You Can Help: Never Buy a Doodle or Any Other Dog<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of all the suffering caused by breeding dogs like doodles, why do breeders keep doing it? <strong>Because misinformed people keep buying them.<\/strong> As long as there are people willing to buy them, breeders will keep forcing more puppies into the world\u2014regardless of how much suffering it causes.
