Update:<\/strong> OK,<\/em> Billie fans, now let\u2019s get in formation.<\/em> We have exciting news concerning the formerly chained chihuahua once known as Beyonc\u00e9\u2014PETA has found her an irreplaceable<\/em> family!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Billie\u2019s new family is helping her continue to sing a new, sweeter tune!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

After spending several weeks in foster care with one of the PETA fieldworkers who rescued her\u2014recovering from cherry eye surgery and, thanks to her fosters\u2019 patience and know-now, learning how to overcome her anxiety\u2014Billie now has her very own humans (and another rescued chihuahua!) to fall crazy in love<\/em> with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I first signed on as a fieldworker<\/a> with PETA\u2019s Community Animal Project<\/a> (CAP), I thought I knew what to expect\u2014I\u2019d seen Breaking the Chain<\/em><\/a>. Heck, I\u2019d written endless content for PETA about the field team\u2014its heartwarming successes and heartaches alike. I was prepared to meet chained pit bulls and other large dogs who are forced to exist outside 24\/7. But it had never occurred to me that I would encounter tiny, short-haired Chihuahuas\u2014who don\u2019t stand a chance of surviving northeastern North Carolina\u2019s harsh winter chill\u2014who are also forced to spend their entire lives languishing outdoors on the end of a tether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enter Beyonc\u00e9. (No, not that<\/em> Beyonc\u00e9 \u2026 THIS \ud83d\udc47 Beyonc\u00e9!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI break chains all by myself.\u201d (With a little assist from PETA, that is!)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Prior to working for CAP, my Chihuahua experience was admittedly limited. It mostly consisted of time with my grandmother\u2019s canine companion, Jezebel, who spent 18 years eating from my grandma\u2019s plate, snoozing with her in her recliner, and\u2014I always suspected\u2014occupying the role of \u201cfavorite granddaughter.\u201d So imagine my shock when Jenny, a CAP senior manager, clued me in to a Chihuahua she\u2019d met who spent her days and nights tied up in a rural North Carolina backyard with only a flimsy plastic doghouse. Jenny knew that Beyonc\u00e9 wouldn\u2019t survive our service area\u2019s fast-approaching blizzard, but the Chihuahua\u2019s owner repeatedly refused to allow her to go indoors or to let PETA take custody of the vulnerable dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, as I\u2019ve seen it do countless times, PETA\u2019s persistence paid off in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ready to fall crazy in love<\/em>? This formerly chained Chihuahua is officially available for adoption!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Late one night, Jenny and Daphna\u2014the senior vice president of PETA\u2019s Cruelty Investigations Department\u2014returned from the field with one additional passenger in tow!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who runs the world<\/em>? Daphna and her wee chi friend!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Jenny\u2014who has never much considered herself a member of the BeyHive\u2014promptly renamed the petite gal Billie and whisked her off to her very own safe, warm home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minus one chain and a painful cherry eye, the Chihuahua formerly known as Beyonc\u00e9 is not sorry<\/em> about her newfound freedom<\/em>!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Billie has made it clear in foster care that she loves cats, kids, and other dogs. Given that this shy but sweet girl was\u2014for the first year of her life\u2014denied the compassion, socialization, and love that all dogs want and need, Billie is intent on permanently joining a family that includes another dog or two \u2026 ones who can keep teaching her how to, well, dog<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Billie\u2019s foster sis and fellow PETA-rescued dog Izzy (right), whispering in her ear: \u201cWho are we? What we run? The world.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Billie is spayed, her cherry eye has been treated, and she\u2019s topping the potty-training charts. Although she\u2019s made loads of progress, she still needs an adopter who understands her smart-but-sensitive nature and will welcome her into their home with loving, patient arms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OK,<\/em><\/strong> adoption applicants, now let\u2019s get in formation.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
